More than 20 artists and designers have sent us their ideas and designs last month, as part of the design contest for our Hop Art series. The submissions came from all different kinds of creative areas: digital designers, graffiti artists, illustrators etc. On the presentation and tasting on December 6, we announced with which of these submitters we would like to work together in 2014 for our Hop Art series. The ‘winners’ are:

“We consider mixing the right combination of natural ingredients to make a tasteful beer a form of art.” In 2014, we’re creating a series of specialty beers around the statement “Beer is art”. We’re looking for creative people to make great designs for our “Hop Art” series.
Early morning last Friday, we were invited to do a small craft beer tasting with beers from Utrecht (our beers!) It was rather early for a tasting, but that didnt stop any of us!
In cooperation with artist Christian Nyampeta, connected to CasCo an art institute in Utrecht, we brewed a beer which is part of the exhibition “How to live together”. The beer will be served at the opening of this project on the 20th of September from 18:00 onwards in the CasCo store in the “Voorstraat”. The beer is dark brown to black in colour, has a proper amount of oats and is surprisingly easy to drink with about 5%.
Saturday the 17th of August, Ronald was a guest in the radio show “Tros in bedrijf” on Radio 1, Dutch National Radio, in order to talk for 45 minutes about the beer market together with Philip de Ridder – Director of Heineken the Netherlands. As experienced entrepreneur he could give us some great advice – and as young players in the market Ronald had to explain that Jillz isnt a beer ;). Listen to the conversation (in Dutch!) here.
People that travel Europe in an old car deserve respect. They can also use a beer or two for on the road (don’t drink and drive!). Since the beginning of this year a new Dutch brewery has started. Sander and Ronald van de Streek have started “vandeStreek bier”. On the 11th of May, during the yearly beerfest in Utrecht they will present themselves with two new beers. The wheat ale “Broeders” is a real thirst killer.
